johnss_210All current Autodesk products used: Inventor Professional, Autodesk Vault, evaluating Productstream
The team is currently using Autodesk Vault, the work-in-progress data management solution that comes “in-the-box” with Inventor and they are also considering implementing Autodesk Productsteam to look after the data throughout the entire design to manufacture process.
“That’s another reason we like Inventor,” says Worthing.  “It will be good to know that all the products are linked and under the Autodesk umbrella.”

Challenge

Long term and happy users of AutoCAD but decided they needed to transition to 3D design

Why Autodesk

Product offered great functionality at a very competitive price
Trusted Autodesk to ensure easy transition from 2D to 3D
Easy to use
Autodesk offers a complete integrated set of products for manufacturing

Results

Virtual elimination of design errors
Reduction in the time taken from initial concept to manufacture

johns_210_01“We looked at everything we could, including Pro/Engineer.  However, Inventor was easy to use and, as we’re not a huge company, we also had to be cost-conscious.  Inventor Professional offered great functionality - for example, sheet metal, piping and tubing modules are all included in the package – at a very competitive price.”
“I never want to go back to using 2D, it would be like going back to the stone age.”

Ken Worthing
Chief Draughtsman, Johnson & Starley
