This web training seminar is available free of charge to customers with current support contracts. Details and registration can be found here. Register as early as possible to ensure your place is reserved. Internet Explorer 7.0 As some of you may already know, Microsoft have released Internet Explorer 7. However it is not advised that you download and install this new version until your Autodesk software has been made compatible. In particular DWF Viewer, Design Review and DWG True view are not yet supported. “Autodesk DWF Viewer, Autodesk Design Review, and Autodesk DWG TrueView are not compatible with the Microsoft Internet Explorer 7. These three Autodesk applications use HTML as part of their menuing interfaces and are impacted by Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 operation.” Until Autodesk fully support IE 7 you can install a patch to stop the automatic download. Select the link here to go to the Microsoft Download Centre and install 'Toolkit to Disable Automatic Delivery of Internet Explorer 7' Remote Support As well as using GotoMeeting for our web training seminars we are also using this application to assist on the support desk by providing remote desktop support. To make this process as simple as possible Guy has put together a document explaining the steps to follow. The document can be downloaded from the following location: TD0113 - Using gotomeeting for Remote Support If you were at the Autodesk User Conference this month some of these tips may be familiar. Content Center Favourites If you are using Content Center Favourites with Inventor you may want to share your favourites list with other users. How do you do this? The content center favourites list is not stored in the content center database itself. Instead it is stored separately per machine, in an xml file. The xml file is as follows: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Autodesk\Autodesk Inventor 11\ContentCenter\Favorites.xml You can share this file by copying it to the same location on another Inventor machine. Deriving Assemblies to Parts Inventor 11 added some new features to derived assemblies:
1 - Deriving an Assembly into a Part file now retains the
colours of all of the Parts
Flat Pattern Tips Flat Pattern Orientation - If you created a flat pattern and the orientation was wrong you can easily change it. To change the orientation of the flat pattern, right-click on the flat pattern in the Browser, and click Reselect the Horizontal or Vertical edges. You can then select the edge to align with. Flat Pattern Error Trapping - If you create a flat pattern after the first one or two features you can easily identify, when you add a feature, which feature causes a flat pattern error. This is easier than trying to diagnose an error if you create the flat pattern once the model is complete. Inventor Task Scheduler Performance You can use the Inventor Task Scheduler to perform batch tasks on Inventor files. This tool processes Inventor files and in the background opens and closes Inventor as necessary. You can speed up this background process by disabling any unnecessary add ins prior to starting the batch process. This will speed up the time inventor takes to load. DWF Presentation
Last month we ran a web seminar showing the features and
functions added by the DWF web extension. You can download
the presentation from this web seminar from the following

Inventor Tools Tooltip Of The Month Inventor Tools 11 Web Seminar Presentation Last month we hosted a web seminar covering all the tools available in the new inventor tools. If you were unable to attend this event you can download the presentation from the link below: Inventor Tools 11 Web Seminar Presentation (ppt) (1.7MB) Purge application from Drawing If you open and save an AutoCAD file in a
vertical application such as Mechanical Desktop or AutoCAD
Mechanical hidden items are automatically added to the drawing.
When the files are reopened in AutoCAD messages regarding 3rd
party applications are generated which at best are mildly
annoying but at worse can interrupt batch routines and scripts.
You can however purge out unused application objects. The
standard purge command does not give this option, however if you
enter the command at the command line with a preceding dash i.e.
-PURGE, you will start the command line version of the purge
command. This has an additional option for purging registered
applications by entering the R option. AutoCAD windows taskbar options There is a system variable within AutoCAD named TASKBAR which controls how documents appear on the windows taskbar. The default setting is 0 which displays only
the name of the current drawing on the Windows taskbar. Backup Causes Event Viewer Errors In the Event Viewer, you may have noticed that Autodesk Data Management Job Dispatch service error messages about a JobService.ExecuteJob failure were logged whenever your scheduled vault backup is carried out. These errors occur when the Job Dispatch service cannot communicate with the ADMS service. If the web services are stopped, which they will be during a backup, then the error will be logged. Check the times that these normally occur, and see if they coincide with the times of your backups. To stop the error messages from occurring during a backup, add the following lines to you backup script: Before the backup: Net Stop "Autodesk Data Management Job Dispatch" After the backup: Net Start "Autodesk Data Management Job Dispatch" Wiring Sequence When a wire from/to schedule is produced, quite often the connections between components are not always logical and the report may state that a component in area 1 (example) is connected to a component in area 2 (example) and then back to area 1 again. Obviously the connection order would need to be changed so that connections in a similar area are wired as a group. This can be changed in the report generator itself or indeed in the schematic. From the Wires toolbar or flyout select the command Define Wire Sequence. Select a wire on the equipotential you wish to analyse the connectivity of and a dialogue will appear:
By highlighting a row in the above dialogue, you can then 'move up' or 'move down' its connectivity. Select OK to accept any changes made. N.B. It is recommended to save the drawing prior to running a wire from/to report. You can also show the connectivity and its order by selecting the command Show Wire Sequence. Select any part of the equipotential you wish to analyse and you will see green arrows which represent the connectivity. Pressing space bar will toggle through the connectivity and the ordering of the components. Downloads, Service Packs & Updates New Downloads, Service Packs & Updates released
